With one other employee, Foret produced the Vac-U-Torq units in the
basement of his home. The total turnover for 1976 was $27,000. In 1980, Foret
moved the operation to a 7500 sq. ft. facility, also in Falmouth. That same year
Foret granted a license to a large Danish industrial manufacturer, Danfoss A/S.
The license allowed Danfoss to produce the Vac-U-Torq clutch brake and controls for the
European and Japanese markets.
Foret died suddenly in 1981 and Foret Systems was purchased by Stewart
Oakes. Oakes brought with him 40 years of experience in the manufacture of
industrial machinery, having previously owned a clutch brake manufacturing company,
Simplatrol Products, which he sold to Dana Corporation in the early 1970's.
On the last day of 1988, Oakes sold Foret Systems to Danfoss and
retired. Oakes' son, Jeffrey, remained and became the U.S. Vice President of
sales and marketing for the newly created clutch brake division.
Danfoss spun off Foret Systems in 1992 and Jeffrey Oakes purchased the
exclusive distribution rights to the Vac-U-Torq and RotaStep clutch brake line for the
U.S. The company was renamed Orbit Motion Technologies.
Due to market demands, Orbit has expanded the operation to include other
motion control devices, most importantly Closed Loop Servo. Now occupying a
facility in Mashpee, Massachusetts, it's main marketing focus is supplying fully
integrated servo motion software and hardware into a working solution for the converting
and packaging industries.
Orbit has a team of software engineers available on short notice to travel anywhere in the
world to solve your hardware and software issues on any of the motion control platforms
that we sell. Whether for a software modification, troublweshooting or complete
motion retroft, Orbit has the expertise to create your solution.
